How to Protect Coral Reef?

It’s easy!
Local people near Ujung Kulon National Park have initiated a community-based patrol around Badul Island in Banten province. The group puts aside a portion of income from tourism and aquaculture revenue for conducting patrol and protecting coral reef ecosystem around the island.

This community-based patrol scheme is, in fact, not a new thing in this part of the world. There are examples around Sebesi Island near Krakatau volcano and in Tanjung Jaya near Ujung Kulon National Park.

How can YOU protect a coral reef?

It’s even easier!
You can donate to support the group’s initiative; Thus improving their patrol capacity (contact
adhi-rsh@indo.net.id for details on this possibility). You can also join a BUILD REEF weekend in which you can actually build an artificially planted reef with live soft corals from local farm (please visit: www.javaseacharters.com for more details on this unique diving/tour package). Either way, you will give an enormous contribution to a coral reef ecosystem.
